Midterms Survival Kit: What to Pack

By Debora Aberastury on September 19, 2017

Soon, the smell of coffee will be evident, hair will be in messy buns, and yoga pants and large sweaters will be the standard uniform. The air will soon be crisp, with an underlying feeling of panic, dread, and ‘what-do-you-mean-that-is-going-to-be-on-the-test?’

Yes, fall midterm time will soon be upon us, but no need to panic! Here are some ideas of what to pack in your bag to survive.

An army of snacks

Think healthy: carrot sticks, pretzels, celery, peanut butter, and trail mix all in Ziploc baggies. You don’t want to run on junk food all week — even though it might make you feel better at first, your energy will run out quickly.

Have water with you at all times. Try to stay away from coffee — but we all know that the attempts will be futile. Try not to have too much?

Loose change

Because, okay, you deserve a chocolate bar from the vending machine once in a while, especially during midterms week. Don’t make it a sulking snack, but an awarding snack — get something for yourself to treat yourself for finishing an essay or getting through a few hours of studying.

Don’t spend all of your loose change on ‘I-hate-this-week’ chocolate. You will regret it.

Hair brush, ponytail holders, mini body spray

Let’s be honest — showering is the least of your worries when you have midterms. Brushing your hair, being able to spray some body spray, and putting your hair up will make you feel better, especially when you are in the middle of a paper jam in the library printer. Breath in, breath out …

Over the counter pain medicine

You don’t want to be incredibly far away from your dorm or car when a headache settles in. Pack some ibuprofen or acetaminophen in your bag, just in case. A few Band-Aids won’t hurt either — with all the pages you will be flipping through, papercuts may just happen.

And chargers — ALL THE CHARGERS

There is nothing worse than your laptop dying in the middle of writing an essay, so make sure that you have your laptop charger with you whenever you have your laptop. Sure, your laptop might have lasted two weeks that one time, but this is no time to take risks! Anything and everything can happen during midterms week. One must be prepared.

The same goes with phone chargers, tablet chargers — whatever electronic device you have to have with you, remember to pack your chargers along with it. It may be simple, but when you’re stressed, it is easy to forget things.

Bonus points if you bring along extra phone chargers for those sad souls that forgot theirs in their dorm. It is likely that you might not get them back, but make it your good deed of the day. Remember — we are all in this together.
